Sophomore running back A.J. Ellis is set to return Saturday against San Jose State. The San Jose native is getting his first opportunity to play in his hometown in a Bulldog uniform. Ellis discussed how it feels to get back on the field this week.
“It feels great,” said Ellis. “It felt like I haven’t been out here in years, so it felt good to finally get back out there and run and not feel no pain or anything.”
Ellis missed three games following his injury at Ole Miss. The sophomore had 172 yards on 37 total carries and two touchdowns before the injury. He explained how he feels as he prepares to return.
“It feels like I got my legs back,” said the running back. “Feels like my legs and everything are 100%.”
The running back is confident he is ready to return Saturday. “I definitely expect to play,” said Ellis. “This is my hometown so I got to play against San Jose.”
Ellis is set to return in the Bulldog’s last WAC visit to San Jose State, against a Spartan team that has given up an average 205 rushing yards per game this season. The sophomore talked about playing in his hometown.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Ellis. “If I had to come back to any game it would be this one. It’s pretty much working out perfectly. I was supposed to be out for about six weeks, but I’m able to come back in three.”
The San Jose native expects to see friends and family in the stands when he returns to San Jose. “We might have more fans than San Jose State there.”
