Serra DL Makes Decision
Suli Faletuipapai (6-2, 205) flew under the recruiting radar despite playing on a team with three of the nation's top recruits: George Farmer, Jason Gibson, and Marqise Lee. "What I look it is I'm doing my part," said Faletuipapai. "I see it as I'm doing my job and they're doing theirs." He took his first official visit this last weekend to Fresno. "It was a great experience. I visited with my mom and my younger brother. Coach [Pat] Hill is a great man. They showed me a lot of love. "We toured the campus. The stadium was big. What stuck out for me were the academics, that's real good for me." Fresno State center Richard Helepiko hosted him on his visit. At the end of his trip, Faletuipapai sat in Coach Hill's office with his mom and brother. "I was kind of nervous," he said. "[Hill] said ‘I'm offering an official scholarship.' It's going to be good becoming a Fresno State Bulldog. I committed on the spot. "My family, they gave me so much support. My dad loves the school. He couldn't make the trip because he's working, but I told him I going to Fresno State. And it's not that far from home only like a three hour drive." Heading into his visit, Faletuipapai had one other offer from Utah State, where he is scheduled to visit this weekend. But he says he will likely not take it. He also was receiving interest from Arizona, San Jose State, and Utah. The Bulldogs are recruiting him to play defensive end. He plans to add 25-30 pounds; however, his plans to enroll in the fall could be delayed. "I think they want me on the strong side," added Faletuipapai. "I'm going up to Fresno in March to get a MRI on my shoulder. I dislocated it twice last year. If my shoulder needs surgery, I will grayshirt and enroll in the spring. If not, I will enroll in the fall." Despite dislocating his shoulder twice, he missed only one game playing the others with a shoulder brace, he says. If he makes it in for the fall, he already has the first game circled on his calendar. Teammate Jason Gibson is verbally committed to Cal, whom the Bulldogs plays Sept. 3 at Candlestick Park. "Me and him have been talking about it," said Faletuipapai. "I haven't told him I committed yet but he knows I was visiting. I told him that I'm going to be seeing him." Academically, he reports a 2.4 core GPA. He says needs to improve his SAT. "I'm about 20 points off, and I got to keep [improving] my GPA." You can now follow BarkBoard.com via Twitter.
