Fresno State and North Dakota have never played. The Fighting Sioux are in the midst of five-year transition to the FCS level. The former Division II power that won the 2001 national championship will join the Big Sky Conference next season.
Bulldogs head coach Pat Hill has not lost versus FCS schools (formerly D1-AA). He is 8-0 winning each by an average margin of victory of 28 points. North Dakota is the seventh home opener against an FCS school in Hill's 15 seasons. Hill has won 12 of 14 home openers (losses to Nevada 1998 and Wisconsin 2008). Fresno State has not lost to an FCS (D1-AA) team since 1984 (Montana State).
