Fresno State has not beaten Boise State since a 27-7 victory six years in Bulldog Stadium. The Broncos are 4-1 in Fresno when both teams were members of the WAC. However, Friday’s matchup is the first non-conference matchup since the ‘Dogs beat BSU 41-7 in 1996…

Fresno State is 2-3 on the season, dropping all three of its games versus BCS teams. But the Bulldogs most difficult opponent this season is not from an auto-qualifying (AQ) conference.

No. 5 Boise State is the fifth top 10 team to play inside Bulldogs Stadium, and is the highest ranked team the Bulldogs have ever faced in Fresno. The Broncos were 9-1 versus Fresno State when both teams were members of the WAC. The ‘Dogs own a 3-0 record in non-conference games – the last coming during Boise State’s first year in FBS play (1996).

Bulldog head coach Pat Hill is calling Friday’s game a must win.

It is!

Fresno State has finished 8-5 the last two seasons much to the dismay of the Fresno community. A loss to Boise State would put the Bulldogs at four losses just six games into the season with matchups remaining at Nevada, at Hawaii, and at San Diego State. The ‘Dogs have lost at least two WAC games every season since joining the conference in 1992, therefore, FS has little room for error.

Can the Bulldogs beat the Broncos?

Certainly.

But it’s not likely.

The Fresno State offense is capable of scoring on the Boise State defense. But the Bronco defense will get more stops while the Bulldog defense is good for at least four big plays let alone the drives Kellen Moore will put together.
