Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial center Robert Upshaw signed his National Letter of Intent to Fresno State on Sunday afternoon after choosing the Bulldogs over Cal, USC, and Washington…

Four hats sat on a table: Cal, Fresno State, USC, and Washington. And one was hidden inside a black box. Robert Upshaw hinted that the box contained a hat that wasn't among the four schools on the table. But after opening the box, he removed a Bulldog hat and revealed that he would be attending Fresno State.

The 7-foot, 265-pound center averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks per game his senior year. The four-star prospect was one of the top uncommitted players heading into Sunday, and ranked as the No. 4 prospect in California, according to Scout.com.

Upshaw informed Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry on Thursday of his decision to attend his hometown school. Upshaw says Terry dropped the phone in disbelief and the conversation went silent for minutes.

Terry recruited Upshaw when he was an assistant at Texas.

"I first met Coach Terry when I was a freshman," said Upshaw.

Upshaw noted his relationship with Terry as a major factor in his recruitment. Terry was hired at Fresno State last April, and one year later, he signs one of the top prospects in the nation proving his ability to recruit.
