Fresno State is 1-3 after playing three of its first for MWC games at home. The Bulldogs hit the road for a Wednesday night tilt in Boise. Check inside for the breakdown…

Fresno State 7-10 (1-3) vs. Boise State 13-4 (1-2)

PG: Aaron Anderson (6-3, 190, Fr.) vs. Derrick Marks (6-3, 206, So.)

Derrick Marks has been Boise State’s leading scorer from the point guard position while maintaining high assist numbers. Marks is averaging 17 points and 3.8 assists per game. Marks is not a big threat from three-point range, but he is good off the dribble and can get to the free-throw line. Aaron Anderson is improving his control on the offense, but has not been much of a threat offensively for the ‘Dogs.

Advantage: Boise State

SG: Marvelle Harris (6-4, 200, Fr.) vs. Jeff Elorriaga (6-2, 180, Jr.)

Jeff Elorriaga is reportedly a game-time decision due to a concussion suffered in last Wednesday’s loss to New Mexico. Elorriaga is a three-point specialist, and had been shooting his best prior to his injury. In his previous six games, Elorriaga shot 58% from beyond the arc, including a 10-for-16 shooting night from three-point range.

Advantage: Boise State

SF: Tyler Johnson (6-2, 180, Jr.) vs. Igor Hadziomerovic (6-4, 202, So.)

Tyler Johnson appeared to be becoming a leader for the Bulldogs before suffering an ankle injury and has picked up right where he left off. Johnson has averaged 17 points in his last two conference games, leading the team in scoring both nights. Hadziomerovic is a role player for Boise State and can contribute in several ways from the wing.

Advantage: Fresno State

PF: Kevin Foster (6-8, 230, Sr.) vs. Anthony Drmic (6-6, 196, So.)

Anthony Drmic averages 15.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Broncos. The sophomore has a well-rounded offensive game, but will gladly settle for a shot from the perimeter where he averages over six shots from three-point range per game at a 43% clip.

Advantage: Boise State

C: Jerry Brown (6-7, 220, Jr.) vs. Ryan Watkins (6-9, 229, Jr.)

Ryan Watkins is Boise State’s biggest option at 6-foot-9, 229 lbs. He comes off one of his biggest games in a loss to Air Force, scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Broncos look to rely more on Watkins post presence in conference play.

Advantage: Boise State

Both teams have tightened their rotations as they hit conference play. Boise State’s Mikey Thompson may be the best scoring option off the bench for either team, but Fresno State will be deeper with Kevin Olekaibe and Robert Upshaw first off the bench.

Advantage: Fresno State

Coaches: Rodney Terry vs. Leon Rice

Boise State Head Coach Leon Rice is in his third season with the Broncos. Rice’s young team has improved greatly this season, already matching last season’s 13 wins total. Rice is 3-1 against Fresno State and split the series last season against Fresno State Head Coach Rodney Terry.

Advantage: Boise State

Both teams come off losses in their previous conference games. With the competiveness of the Mountain West so far, the biggest intangible will be home court advantage as wins on the road will be tough to earn.

Advantage: Boise State

Final Analysis/Prediction:

Boise State has several scoring options and can count on a big game from any one of them on any given night. The Broncos have had three different players score 30 or more points in a game this season. Boise State’s offense proves to be too much for the Bulldogs on the road.

PREDICTION: Boise State 73, Fresno State 62
