Offensive lineman Arturo Gomez of Downey HS (Calif.) committed to Fresno State this week. He made his decision on Monday that he would be a Bulldog. Gomez points to the status of Fresno State’s program as well as its proximity to his hometown as top reasons he chose Fresno State.
“The program and where it’s at,” Gomez said. “It’s not too far from home… The stadium, the crowd, and the city around it. How they support the team and everything.”
Gomez took his official visit to Fresno State over this past weekend. Gomez says the highlight of the visit was getting to see the stadium at night. He had taken an unofficial visit to Bulldog Stadium in November when the Bulldogs hosted New Mexico. Gomez got a chance to meet some of the players this time and was hosted by Sean Rubalcava.
“They were all great,” Gomez said of meeting the players. “I really got along and it felt like home with them. They made me feel welcome and it felt like the place to be.”
Gomez was also considering an offer from UTEP and had received interest from UCLA, but he says he has shut down his recruiting and will be a Bulldog on signing day.
“This is it,” Gomez said of his recruiting. “I’m excited to sign and just be a Bulldog. Making it official.”
Art Gomez stands at 6-foot-6, 270 lbs and projects at left tackle by Fresno State. Gomez plans to add some weight after making his way on campus. He wants to hit 300 lbs.
“Everybody that I’ve talked to has said that I have pretty good feet and I can move around a bit,” Gomez said. “I still have to put some weight on me.”
Gomez adds to a strong class of offensive linemen that currently includes Kyle Riddering, Ben Simonds, Jacob Hicks and Bobby Johnson as current commits.
