Issues facing Fresno State over the years.
• Women’s basketball budget increased in 2002/2003 to 1,033,807 (actual expenditures were 1,002,022) despite a budget problem at Fresno State.
• On Nov. 27, 2002, school employee Diane Milutinovich files a lawsuit against Fresno State while her Title IX anti-discrimination complaint against Fresno State was pending.
• April 15th, 2003, budget shortfalls eliminates women's swimming and diving, men's soccer, men's cross country and men's indoor track and field.
• November 14th, 2003, a lawsuit was filed by 12 members of the 2002-2003 Fresno State women’s swimming team that alleges school officials made members of the team practice for nearly a month in a North Gym pool containing up to 10 times the normal level of chlorine.
• Former Fresno State volleyball coach Linda Vivas files a TitleIX complaint in May of 2003 with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights and is in the process of suing Fresno State for retaliation for advocating gender equity for her volleyball team.
• On August 6, 2004, the family of Shana Eriksson filed a lawsuit against Fresno State citing that the death of their daughter “Fresno State was negligent in the administration of an equestrian program they allege was underfunded and improperly supervised and operated in a manner to create the appearance of a well-organized program to satisfy Title IX requirements" at the expense of athletes’ safety.”
• On February 9th, 2005, Fresno State basketball coach Stacy Johnson-Klein is suspended and placed on administrative leave due to "allegations of serious violations" within Fresno State policy. It was reported in the Fresno Bee that her attorney felt she was placed on administrative leave because of complaints she made to the school's athletic department about sexual harassment and gender discrimination 2 weeks earlier.
