Fresno State Team Camp Concludes

Fresno State concludes its high school team camps for 2007 Sunday morning. The first team consisted of nine schools. The second welcomed 13, including some of the top teams and players in the state.

Central (Fresno) was arguably the top team in the first team camp that concluded June 19. The second team camp is a bit harder to distinguish the top team.

Clovis West is led by the 17th rated quarterback in the nation, according to, Beau Sweeney and stud LB Travis Brown. The Eagles are unbeaten in scrimmages thus far, including getting by RB Solomon Martin and Stockton (Calif.) Franklin. Expect the Eagles to end the camp unscathed. They face Tracy (Calif.) Merrill West and Bullard (Fresno) Sunday.

Clovis East has been equally impressive. However, the Timberwolves will not get the chance to scrimmage Clovis West. They did handle talented James Logan from Union City (Calif.), which has two legitimate IA prospects in CB Rashad Evans and OT Blake Lebeau.

Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty was expected to be one of the top teams of the camp. But star QB Byron Campbell got injured and the Patriots are a shade of themselves without him. Defensively, it will be tough to find a better player than Liberty DE Matt Akers. Check out his video from Saturday night vs. Bullard and Whitney.

Standout RB/DB Justin Webber leads Sanger (Calif.). The other schools competing are as follows: Madison (San Diego), San Leandro (Calif.), El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge, Elk Grove (Calif.) Laguna Creek, Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney, and Scripps Ranch (San Diego), JV only.

Today's scrimmages are set to begin at 8:30 am and are scheduled to end before noon.
