The Tigers are loaded with talent offensively. RB John Tate (6-0, 200) has verbally committed to Washington, and WR Rolando Jefferson is arguably the top receiver in the West for the 2009 class. Nonetheless, the offense goes through Davis. Despite his on the field success, he has yet to receive his first official offer.
"It basically the same," Davis said. "It's a little discouraging [not getting an offer]."
Davis says he is not worried about it now. He had a verbal offer from Arizona State after his sophomore year. However, a change of head coaches caused Davis not to receive his official offer. "It will work out," he says.
Currently, Davis favors Oregon over any other school.
"I speak to Coach Gary Campbell every week," Davis said. "I've talked to the offensive coordinator. They let me know that they are taking two guys, and one has already committed."
Slightly behind Oregon Davis has very high interest in Fresno State.
"Oregon is the only school I would choose over Fresno State," Davis said.
"They have always said they like me. They like the way I'm coached. They're looking for someone who wants to be there."
Davis would like to sit down with his family and coaches before making his final decision once the offers are on the table.
"I have never been out of state," Davis said. "My family doesn't mind [if I leave California]."
Davis has no official trips scheduled thus far and really has not thought about what schools he would like to visit. For now, he is focused on leading his team to a Valley title and tackling rival Fresno (Calif.) Bullard this Friday.
"Edison-Bullard has history," Davis said. "The fact they're No. 1 even more."
"It's just like any other game. [We do our assignments] everything will be okay."
This year the Valley is loaded with quarterbacks. Fresno (Calif.) Washington Union's Ebahn Feathers, Clovis (Calif.) West's Beau Sweeney, and Bakersfield (Calif.) Centennial's Byron Campbell are sharing the spotlight with Davis.
As far as being the best in the Valley…
"All these quarterbacks are playing well," Davis said. "But I am different from all of them."
Davis reports a 3.4 GPA and is scheduled to take the SAT December 1 and the ACT December 8.
