Video: "Batman" Ready for Broncos

Clifton Smith

Clifton Smith is the lone senior skill position player for Fresno State. He missed the 2005 win over Boise State with an injury, but he is anxious to strap it on Friday against the WAC's premier team. BarkBoard.com caught up with him Monday after practice and got his thoughts on Boise State, the "Batman" theme, and his alma mater the Edison Tigers…

Clifton "Batman" Smith has lined up in multiple positions this season for the Bulldogs. The running back has lined up at receiver, slot, fullback, and even quarterback. The senior also shares the school career record with four punt returns for touchdowns.

Batman is in the midst of a solid senior season and the team will look to him this Friday as they prepare for five-time defending WAC Champions Boise State. The Broncos have lost just one WAC game in the last five and half years, and that was at Fresno State in 2005.

While the Batman nickname stems from his baseball days at Fresno (Calif.) Edison High School, he still wears the Batman emblem under his jersey. The Fresno State Marching Band paid tribute to his namesake by playing the theme from the show and movie during pre-game warm-ups last Saturday.

"I love the band," Smith said.

He says he was so pumped from hearing the theme, he thought he was going to return a big one. Will we see Batman take it to the house this week?
