Presbyterian coming in:
The Blue Hose come in with a 1-12 overall record, the last being a 76-63 loss at UC Davis. Their schedule has been very tough to say the least featuring games at Nebraska, New Mexico, Clemson, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Georgia, NC State, Georgia Tech, Auburn, and Mississippi.
Head Coach Gregg Nibert who in 18 years has collected over 300 wins leads Presbyterian College. The leading scorer coming in is Pat Kiscaden, who is averaging 11.3 points per game and shooting a 45% clip from the three-point line. This will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Blue Hose.
The Bulldogs coming in:
The Bulldogs come home to Thursday’s matchup after a 69-50 loss in Tucson at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats. The Bulldogs were able to avoid the slow early starts they have been dealing with and actually led 17-15 with just under 10 minutes to go in the first half. What happened next was the game-deciding run as Arizona closed the half on a 20-2 run to lead 35-19 at the break, which ended up being the difference.
Kevin Bell led the Bulldogs with 12 points and seven assists, while Hector Hernandez added 11 points. The Bulldogs only turned the ball over 11 times, but failed to get to the foul line during their shooting droughts, only attempting three free throws in the game. The real issue was the 33.9% shooting, going 19-56 from the field.
Leading the way on the season continues to be Sr. Kevin Bell scoring 17.5 points per game to go with his 6.2 assists. This is Bell’s team, and as he goes, so goes the players around him. Although having your point guard lead the team in scoring is not optimal, at this point Coach Steve Cleveland will take point production from anywhere especially while G Dwight O’Neill is out with a wrist injury.
