Report: Plemons Next Bulldog LB Coach

Posted Mar 6, 2008

Will Plemons has left his position at Sacramento State to become the next linebacker coach at Fresno State according to an undisclosed source. Plemons served as a graduate assistant at Fresno State for two seasons (2004-05). He has spent the last two years coaching defensive line in the Big Sky Conference for Idaho State and Sacramento State in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

Will Plemons will be Fresno State's newest assistant coach, according to a BB.C undisclosed source. He will replace linebacker coach Tom Mason, who left to become the defensive coordinator at SMU. Fresno State Media Relations could not confirm a hire has been made, and told BB.C no official announcement has been scheduled.

Plemons served as the Sacramento State defensive line coach in 2007. Last season, the Hornets led the conference by limiting Big Sky foes to 99.1 rushing yards per game. He coached DT Dallas Mauga to a first team All-Big Sky season. He led all defensive linemen on the team with 43 tackles, including 8.0 tackles-for-loss and 1.0 sacks.

Plemons spent the 2006 season as the defensive line coach at Idaho State. During that season, he coached defensive tackle Villi Akoteu and defensive end Joel Janke to honorable mention all-Big Sky honors.

Prior to moving to Idaho State, Plemons was a member of the Fresno State coaching staff. At Fresno, Plemons served as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons, working with the defensive line. The Bulldogs led the Western Athletic Conference in defense, leading in scoring defense, total defense, turnover margin, pass efficiency defense and pass defense each of the last two seasons, and defensive lineman Garrett McIntyre was the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

Prior to Fresno State, Plemons began his coaching career at his alma mater of Cal Lutheran, where he worked from 1998-2004. He started out on the offensive side as a tight ends and assistant offensive line coach, but in 2000, he was elevated to defensive line coach, and he was given the additional duties of recruiting coordinator in 2003.

Plemons – who also has experience as a strength and conditioning coach from his time at Cal Lutheran – graduated in 1997, serving as a four-year starter for the Kingsmen. As a senior, he was team captain, and named both Most Inspirational and All-Conference.
