6/5 Summer Practice Notebook: Ebahn Reports

From Memorial Day until the start of fall camp, Fresno State football players conduct voluntary individual workouts. The ‘Dogs are in their second week, and the first incoming freshman of 2008 is already on board. QB Ebahn Feathers took in his first workout on Thursday as a Bulldog.

Fresno State is looking towards a huge 2008 season on the gridiron. The Bulldogs return a plethora of starters on both sides of the ball. In addition, Coach Pat Hill boasts one of the top 50 incoming recruiting classes in the nation, which featured QB Ebahn Feathers. He made his debut in his gray Nike workout shirt and red Nike Bulldog shorts on Thursday.

Scout.com rated Feathers No. 41 QB in the nation of the 2008 class. He told BB.C at Tuesday's workout session that he had just passed his physical and would be out there on Wednesday. But that was an off day for the ‘Dogs.

"I just want to get out there and throw the ball again," Feathers said Tuesday afternoon.

He did just that Thursday, getting his first feel of the college ball. For his first day, he did not look bad. Moreover, he has over a month and a half to learn the playbook and become acclimated with his receivers.

  • Devon Wylie continues to look better each day. He made two amazing catches Thursday, including one that was thrown behind him, which prompted his teammates to applaud in their own way. Jason Crawley could be heard saying, "that's the California kid right there," while others began singing Hulk Hogan's theme song -- Real American.
  • Cornell Banks and Mark Roberts were not at Thursday's workout, leaving Jon Monga and Bryce Harris as the only DTs.
  • The DL were running a drill that utilized four large hoops laid out on the field. The object seemed to be for one DL to start running using their speed, quickness and agility to maneuver around the hoops in any direction they chose, while another DL was in pursuit. Monga started the drill, but he was almost run down by Chris Carter despite having a substantial head start.
  • Tom Brandstater showed continued excellence throwing the ball. He was on target during one-on-ones. However, the receivers have seen better days holding onto the football.
  • The starting OL saw a tweak. Kenny Wiggins filled in for Bobby Lepori at LT, Charley Robbins filled in for Cole Popovich at LG, and Richard Pacheco filled in for Adam McDowell. We did not see McDowell, but Lepori and Popovich were at practice.
  • Damion Owens and Isaiah Green both had pass break ups during 11-on-11 action.

BarkBoard.com will have full reports on next week's practices.
