Peterson Impresses at UA/Scout.com Combine

Bakersfield (Calif.) Christian WR Jake Peterson wanted to make a name for himself this weekend at the UA/Scout.com Oakland Combine. He was an all-area QB in 2007, but for his senior season, Peterson moves to his more natural position, WR. BB.C caught up with him after the combine, and he tells us new BCHS QB Derek Carr's verbal commit to Fresno State caught his attention...

Jake Peterson (6-3.5, 190) had an impressive day at the UnderArmour/Scout.com Oakland Combine this past Saturday at the Oakland Raiders facility. He played QB last season and threw for 2,235 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also rushed for 550 yards with another six scores. But Texas gunslinger, Derek Carr, has transferred to Bakersfield Christian for the 2008 season. Carr, the younger brother of NFL QB David Carr, was a standout at Sugar Land Clements in the Houston area. The move allows Peterson to shift to receiver.

Peterson is using the off-season to make a name for himself at receiver. First, he caught balls for Carr at the Elite 11 Camp at Berkeley on May 16. He caught everyone’s attention with his crisp route running. He followed it up with a good performance at the Stanford Nike Camp the next day. Then he capped his spring this past weekend with a solid showing in Oakland, where he was arguably the top receiver of the day.

He says Michigan State and Nebraska are recruiting him the hardest with a host of Pac-10 schools also showing interest. However, he tells BB.C that ever since Carr committed to Fresno State, his interest in the Bulldogs has increased…
