Fresno State’s five pitchers combined to hold North Carolina scoreless for all but one inning, and the ‘Dogs continued their amazing run Tuesday night with a 5-3 victory in the College World Series. The ‘Dogs, now 2-0 in the CWS, are off until Friday and await the NC/LSU Thursday winner. A win will send the ‘Dogs to their first ever best of three College World Series Championship round. | |||

Fresno State starter Justin Miller pitched four innings, allowing all three runs on seven hits. Jason Breckley got the win on pitching just a third of an inning. Closer Brandon Burke gave up one hit in 1 1/3 innings for his 13th save. FS knocked out Tar Heels starter Adam Warren in the fifth after opening the inning with three straight singles. NC brought on Brian Moran, and he gave up Alan Ahmady’s go ahead two-run single that gave FS a 4-3 lead. Ryan Overland’s homer led off the second inning, giving the ‘Dogs a 1-0 lead. It was the first time North Carolina had trailed in a game in the NCAA tournament. NC went up 3-1 in the third. Steve Susdorf’s homer in the fourth cut the lead to 3-2. Subsequently, Ahmady came through with his bases-loaded hit against Moran. Tar Heel closer Rob Wooten allowed just three hits the rest of the way, including Erik Wetzel's RBI single for ‘Dogs final run in the eighth.
No. 2 national seed North Carolina will meet LSU in an elimination game Thursday, with the winner facing FS on Friday. If the ‘Dogs lose, they will play the same opponent Saturday in an elimination game.
