Jeff Tuel (6-3, 190) committed before the season to Washington State. What the made the commitment unique was the fact Tuel had never played a down of varsity football. He spent the last two seasons at the junior varsity level and backing up current Cal Bear Beau Sweeney, respectively.
His first season has been spent in a new “spread” offense under new Coach Greg Kinne, which featured a “no-huddle” that featured the run over the pass. The transition was tough for the entire offense and production struggled especially in the Eagles' three losses this season, two came against Southern Section teams Anaheim-Servite and Corona-Centennial.
“I’m sure it has something to do with it,” said Tuel of the lack of production stemming from the new offense.
“We’re doing great; we’re moving the ball that is the most important thing to do whether it is on the ground or through the air. Doing whatever we need to do to get the team to the Valley championship.”
Tuel was expected to sling the ball all around the field this season. However, injuries and the lack of capable of receivers have not helped the passing game and his stats have suffered. Dropped passes became a staple this season in the Clovis West offense.
“It’s not obviously where I would like it to be,” Tuel said of his passing numbers. “But I’m happy with what I’ve done this year.”
Tuel is shown in action through the first nine games of the season. Tuel is wearing #10 in the clips…
