Tanner Scheppers and Daniel Gutierrez shined in Saturday's Arizona Fall League Rising Stars game, combining for four strikeouts in two innings. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Arizona Fall League: West Rising Stars 8 - East Rising Stars 7

The West Division trailed 7-0 after the top of the first inning, but some excellent pitching [which included two Rangers prospects] and timely hitting helped the West rally for the late victory.

Right-hander Tanner Scheppers showed off his electric fastball, sitting between 96-99 mph in his perfect 14-pitch inning. Scheppers struck out one, got a groundout to shortstop, and a flyout to left field.

Daniel Gutierrez allowed one hit and one walk in his scoreless inning, but he also struck out the side. The former Royals prospect sat between 94-96 mph with his fastball, and all three of his strikeouts came on big 12-to-6 curveballs.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared on Saturday.

Venezuelan Winter League

La Guaira designated hitter Max Ramirez went 0-for-3 with a walk, making him hitless in three of his last four contests.

Shortstop Renny Osuna played as a defensive replacement, but he didn’t have a plate appearance.

Joseph Ortiz got a groundout from the only hitter he faced.

In 12 appearances with the Tiburones this season, the 19-year-old Ortiz has logged 6.2 innings, allowing five hits while walking four and striking out five.

Omar Poveda was excellent in long relief for Aragua, yielding just an unearned run on two hits in 3.1 innings. He fanned one without issuing a walk.

Dominican Winter League

Shortstop Joaquin Arias was 0-for-2 with a walk. He now has five walks in his last eight starts.

Warner Madrigal pitched in his first game since October 18. He worked a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

Licey shortstop Andres James played defensively, but he didn’t get to hit.

Esteban German (.286/.412/.321 in 28 at-bats) singled once and walked twice.

Toros hurler Omar Beltre pitched in his first game of the season, yielding a solo home run in one inning of work. He gave up the round-tripper to Giants switch-hitter Eugenio Velez. He struck out one.
