Fresno State has a strong history of successful walk-on stories. Every year it seems at least one walk-on emerges from obscurity to earn a starting role by season end. This year is no different as walk-on Desia Dunn started his first game two weeks ago versus Louisiana Tech. BB.C caught up with him at practice this week…

Desia Dunn had an offer from Army coming out of Stockton (Calif.) Edison in 2007. He says schools like Nevada and Oregon State showed interest as did Fresno State but no one else offered. After taking a trip to Fresno State to watch a game, and talking to some of the players, he decided he wanted to play for Pat Hill regardless of a scholarship offer.

Last season, Dunn came in as an offensive player – running back – and redshirted. He moved to defensive back, however, he earned the Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year Award for his standout play on offense in practice. This season, Dunn is strictly a cornerback. His hard work has paid off as he has slowly moved up the depth chart this season. Two weeks ago, he made his first start at Louisiana Tech, where he recorded his first career interception.

Dunn says he is not worried about his walk-on status. He is just focusing on helping the team and playing hard. Listen to the audio interview for more on Dunn…
