‘Dogs Dominate Second Half in San Jose

The Fresno State Bulldogs were held to 0 yards rushing on their first 10 offensive possessions by a stout San Jose State defense. But the ‘Dogs erupted for 69 yards on the 11th drive for the go-ahead score on Anthony Harding’s 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of Friday night's 24-10 win over the Spartans. Game Notes
With the win, Fresno State improves to 7-4, 4-3 in WAC play, and secures a bowl bid for ninth time in 10 seasons.
For the second consecutive week, the Bulldog defense holds its opponent to -9 yards rushing.
Chastin West's 49-yard punt return for a touchdown was the third on the season for Fresno State. All three have come from different players. Marlon Moore had a 63-yard return against UCLA and Rashad Evans recorded a 56-yard return against Louisiana Tech. West is the only Bulldog on the roster with both a career punt return and kickoff return for a touchdown.
Kevein Goessling's 44-yard field goal in the first half was just his second attempt in the last four games, after attempting 19 in the first seven games.
Fresno State was held to -13 yards rushing in the first half, 7 yards in the first quarter and -20 in the second. The 'Dogs finished with 171 net yards rushing in the game.
Anthony Harding has rushed for 200 combined yards in the last two games. He now leads the team with 691 rushing yards on the season.
Jon Monga left the game in the first half limping off the field. He did not return and spent the second half on crutches.
Robert Malone had a career-high 74-yard punt in the first half.
Fresno State did not record its first 1st down until midway through the second quarter.
Fresno State lost the turnover battle 3 to 1. The ‘Dogs are now -12 on the season in turnover margin.
Tom Brandstater had his worst performance this season finishing just 5-of-18 for 71 yards with one interception.
