| Ladd Set to Face Hometown Seattle U

Seattle U has a long and rich basketball history that first flourished during the 1950’s. That was way before Seattle native and Fresno State guard Mychal Ladd’s time. However, his grandfather starred at Seattle U when it was part of the WCC in the 1970’s. Ladd says it will be nice to see some familiar faces on Tuesday night, but he is just trying to get the win… A game against Seattle University would have been something during the 1950’s. Its men’s basketball teams had All-American’s Johnny and Eddie O’Brien, who lead Seattle U in becoming the only team in history to have defeated the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. Johnny O'Brien was the first collegiate player to score 1,000 in a season in 1952. In 1958, Hall of Fame inductee, Elgin Baylor, paced a men’s basketball team that advanced to the Final Four and defeated No. 1 ranked Kansas State. In the national title game, with Baylor limited by a broken rib, Seattle U fell short to an Adolph Rupp led University of Kentucky squad. In 2008, the first-year DI independent is an “easy” non-conference opponent on the Fresno State Bulldogs’ home schedule. If not for Seattle U being from the same hometown as freshman guard Mychal Ladd, there would be no storyline to this game other than the Redhawks’ post player – Austen Powers – baring a similar name of a Michael Myers movie.
But playing Seattle U really doesn’t mean much to Ladd as we found out at Tuesday’s practice. He says he is somewhat excited to see some familiar faces. While his grandfather was an All-WCC player at Seattle, Ladd is more focused on getting the win on Tuesday night. He is averaging 10.3 points per game. Ladd has been consistent scoring a high of 13 and a low of eight through three games. But he says the best of Mychal Ladd is yet to come…for more please listen to interview…
